# AI vs. Authenticity: Scale the Work Without Scaling Sameness

 September 28, 2026

### A practical framework for increasing B2G marketing capacity without multiplying generic content, diluting positioning or creating sales assets sellers do not use

Growth expectations in the public sector technology market are rising amid growing competition and a rapidly changing policy environment.

Public sector marketing teams are supporting more products, sellers, partners and campaigns with the same resources, while newer teams are also adapting commercial content for government and building a repeatable public sector motion, all at the same time. AI can help, but it can also accelerate teams in the wrong direction.

*[Public Sector Marketing Velocity Is Not The Goal. Buyer Movement Is](https://info.gotogbr.com/blog/public-sector-marketing-buyer-movement).* made the case that velocity only creates value when teams know what they are trying to advance. AI raises the next question: When speed makes marketing and sales assets easier to create, what ensures the work meets the buyer where they are in the GovBuyer’s Journey?

### AI gives you capacity. It does not give you direction.

AI can create room and scale output. But if every hour saved becomes another deliverable, the team may be scaling activity without increasing buyer relevance or value. Capacity is only an advantage when you are intentional about how you use it.

### Authenticity in B2G marketing isn’t a tone. It’s grounded in what your organization genuinely knows and can support.

Much AI advice focuses on sounding more human: remove predictable phrases, vary sentence length, change the tone. Those edits may improve the copy, but they don’t make the thinking more valuable or authentic. Authenticity is a strategic issue, not just a writing one.

In business writing, authenticity comes from communicating what your organization genuinely knows, believes and can support in ways relevant to the customer. Specificity makes that authenticity visible and credible when it reflects a real understanding of the buyer, mission and market.

For example, a federal technology leader doesn’t need another explanation of modernization. They may need help understanding how a new policy changes the risk of maintaining the status quo. A defense stakeholder may already understand the technology but need help working through mission requirements and interoperability considerations.

Across the [GovBuyer’s Journey](https://www.gotogbr.com/govbuyersjourney/), buyers’ questions, information needs and next action change as they move from understanding a catalyst to researching approaches, assessing solutions and building support for a purchase. AI can scale content for each moment, but it can’t decide what the buyer needs or make generic content more useful simply by producing more of it.

### A better AI operating model: Feed it. Scale it. Check it. Reinvest it.

To scale effectively, marketers need a disciplined way to decide what AI should accelerate and where human expertise matters. Here are four steps.

#### 1. Feed it judiciously: Give AI something worth scaling

Generic inputs produce generic output. Treat the prompt as a content brief that covers:

Persona + catalyst + buyer task + public sector context + authentic insight + point of view + desired buyer movement

That means answering questions such as: Who needs to move? What changed in their world? What are they trying to accomplish now? What’s making it harder? What do we know from experience? What’s the market overlooking? What should they understand differently?

Now AI has differentiated inputs to work from instead of being asked to manufacture expertise.

#### 2. Scale it deliberately: Automate production, not strategic ownership

AI can accelerate more of the marketing workflow, but not every decision should be delegated to it.

Use AI to accelerate:

- Research synthesis
- First-draft structures
- Repurposing
- Channel variations
- Subject matter expert (SME) interview summaries
- Editing and condensation
- Approved message adaptations

Human ownership of:

- Buyer and mission context
- The central argument
- Earned expertise
- Point of view
- Supporting evidence
- The intended buyer movement

Automate the work that consumes capacity without creating much differentiation. Protect the thinking that makes the result useful.

#### 3. Check it every time: Run the 5-minute Sameness Check

Before an AI-assisted asset goes to market, ask five questions. Ask them before rounds of internal review add more effort to something that may not deserve it.

##### Ask: Could almost anyone publish this?

Remove your company and product names. Could a competitor publish it? Could it work for a commercial buyer without changing the argument? If yes, the issue is probably deeper than copy.

Do this: Add a meaningful buyer catalyst, public sector constraint, original insight or market-specific point of view.

##### Ask: What’s here because of something our people know?

Find the earned expertise: a recurring objection sellers hear, an implementation pattern SMEs see, a procurement or policy issue that changes evaluation, or a question customers keep raising.

Do this: Require at least one meaningful source of insight: sales, an SME, customer feedback or original market research.

##### Ask: Can the GovBuyer identify the point of view?

Finish this sentence: After reading this, we want the GovBuyer to do \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ or believe \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_.

If the answer is simply that the topic matters, keep working. A point of view doesn’t have to be provocative, but it should make a judgment: What matters most? What’s the market getting wrong? What should the buyer prioritize or do next?

Do this: Define the central judgment before AI drafts around it.

##### Ask: What should the buyer understand differently?

Marketing should know what action it wants to advance and what role the content plays in the GovBuyer's decision. Should it change understanding, evaluation criteria, internal alignment or readiness for a sales conversation?

If nothing should change, the asset may inform without moving the buyer. If you’re unsure what should change, return to the [GovBuyer’s Journey](https://www.gotogbr.com/govbuyersjourney/) and the jobs, problems and questions at that stage.

Do this: Put the intended buyer movement directly into the brief.

##### Ask: Would sales know when to use it?

Instead of asking sellers whether they like the content, ask where they’d use it: before a meeting, after a technical conversation, to align stakeholders, challenge an assumption or maintain momentum.

If the answer is unclear, the asset may be too broad. If it conflicts with your intended campaign step, you’ve found a sales and marketing misalignment.

Do this: Seek alignment on a content use case, not just sales approval.

#### The Sameness Check is not only about better content

The Sameness Check can also expose upstream problems. Weak specificity may signal limited market intelligence or access to SMEs; an unclear point of view may reveal positioning gaps; unclear sales use may signal earlier misalignment. AI accelerates whatever system exists, strong or weak. That’s why sameness is bigger than an AI problem.

#### 4. Reinvest what works: Decide what the AI dividend buys you

AI-created capacity becomes a strategic choice. For your next campaign, identify where AI saved time and decide where to reinvest it. Put the time back into work that strengthens authenticity and meets GovBuyers where they are:

- Review priority-account activity with sales
- Interview another SME
- Hone the public sector message instead of adapting the commercial one
- Pressure-test the point of view

Or improve the asset itself:

- Add evidence
- Look at the policy, budget or mission catalyst more closely
- Build a reusable campaign foundation instead of another one-off asset

Use AI to free people closest to the market to spend more time on the work they’re best positioned to do.

### Scale what deserves acceleration

AI makes marketing and sales assets easier to create, but more assets don’t guarantee more reach. Attention is earned by showing that you understand the buyer’s mission, where they are in the [GovBuyer’s Journey](https://www.gotogbr.com/govbuyersjourney/) and what will help them move forward. That takes credible expertise, evidence, judgment and a point of view that helps customers think differently.

Velocity vs. value asks: what are we trying to move? AI vs. authenticity asks: what is worth scaling?

Both answers start before execution. Know the buyer, what they need now and what your organization uniquely knows. Then use AI to extend those insights. Scale the work that should move faster. Protect the thinking that makes the work yours.

### Bring one asset and the workflow behind it to GAIN ’26

Before GAIN ’26, run one current AI-assisted campaign or asset through the Sameness Check. Then ask:

What expertise did you give AI to scale?
What did your team do with the capacity AI gave back?

Bring the asset, the workflow and your answers to GAIN ’26 to pressure-test where AI is creating meaningful capacity, where sameness is creeping in and what deserves to scale next.

The goal is not more AI. It is more value from what AI makes possible.
